How to Get to the Jetty
The first step to visiting Tioman Island is reaching the mainland jetty.
Depending on your location, you can travel by self-drive, private transfer, or bus to one of the two main departure points:
- Mersing Jetty
- Tanjung Gemok Jetty

Choosing Between the Two Jetties
Both jetties offer ferry services to Tioman Island. Your choice depends on schedule availability, convenience, and location:
- Mersing Jetty – Closer to Johor Bahru and Singapore, but ferry schedules are more dependent on tides.
- Tanjung Gemok Jetty – Located slightly further north, usually with more stable departure times.

Ferry Companies – Bluewater vs. Cataferry
There are two main ferry operators traveling to Tioman, each offering different levels of comfort, ticket prices, and village stopovers:
- Bluewater Express – More frequent trips, basic comfort, budget-friendly.
- Cataferry – Modern, air-conditioned ferries with more comfortable seating.

Where Does the Ferry Stop? – Main Villages on Tioman
Each ferry makes stops at different village jetties (Kampung).
Your destination for De Dive Centre is Kampung Paya (or Paya Jetty / Paya Pier). This is where you will get off the ferry. Our dive center is just a 3-5 minute walk from the jetty. Â
When booking your ticket, please select Paya Jetty as your destination. Don’t worry, all major ferry operators from Mersing and Tanjung Gemok include Paya on their route
Other jetties on Tioman Island include:
- Genting
- Tekek (main village, with airport and duty-free shops)
- Air Batang (ABC)
- Salang
- Juara (accessible via land transfer from Tekek)
- Mukut

Ticket Purchase Tips – First-Time Travelers Must Read
- How to buy tickets?
2-way tickets can be purchased through ferry operators’ website or from Ticketing Agency in advance. While you can buy tickets at the jetty counters on the day, there is no guarantee of availability. We strongly recommend booking your ferry tickets in advance as soon as it is made available for sell, as ferries fill up quickly, especially during peak season. - Do I need to print my ticket?
An e-ticket is usually sufficient, but carrying a printed copy is advisable.

Yes, you must bring a valid passport or Malaysian IC for verification. - Cash preparation
Bring some cash for marine park fees, ferry terminal charges, and small expenses, as not all counters accept cards.
